India bans "made in China" globes

This just in from the BBC
An Indian court has banned imports of Chinese-made toy globes depicting the disputed territory of Kashmir as a separate state. BBC NEWS | South Asia | Indian court bans Kashmir globes

If you live in the subcontinent or in China, you are surely exposed to "wrong" maps. We in India grew up seeing the whole of Kashmir as a part of India. The Chinese maps show an entire province of India (Arunachal Pradesh) as part of China and till recently showed Sikkim as an independent country. Till a few years back, it was very hard to bring in foreign maps into India. There was even the case of Microsoft having to recall Windows 95 CDs from India because of the map. I wonder now with so many maps on the internet, how could the Chinese exporters not be "sensitive" to their customers.

Map of Kashmir
Kashmir - The area on the left (Northern Areas and Azaad Kashmir) is controlled by Pakistan. The portion in the South called "Jammu and Kashmir" is a state in the Indian Union. The western portion called "Aksai Chin" is now part of Xinjiang province of China. The map is from University of Texas .

Arunachal Pradesh province of India, Chinese maps show this region as a part of Tibet. Intrestingly, the British only negotiated the region into British India early in the 20th century. It was a part of Tibet before that. The map is from University of Texas .

it's reality that pakisthan belongs to India in its almost-entirety, with the ethnic Iranian province of Baluchestan belonging to Iran and the Northern Areas belonging to Afghanistan.

Yes I agree with Amrit, there was no Pakistan earlier and still there is no PAK-Sta (means it is no longer a PAK state) it should be part of Indian terriotary.

i think you both amrit ashu not belive in facts.
pakistan is state and kashmir is also state.
peole who says that kashmir is part of india or pakistan ,they both are wrong.
its better for both pakistan and india to free kashmir .

The thing is simple.. the ethinic background of kashmiri's neither belong to India nor to pakistan. According to some ethinists we are the last tribes of jews and according to some we belong to persians...even our physical appearence is differenet from Indians..take our colour an example....its better for India to move out of kashmir..

January 5, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAlexio

Alexio, they speak multitude of languages. Hindi/Urdu is not much spoken in that area. You might want to check the wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arunachal_Pradesh#Languages
