Welcome Page - Travels with the Korean Fish

The Korean Fish

Kindness of strangers and patience of friends is what you need when you travel to faraway places. The "Korean Fish" is my way of thanking the kind people. The kindness may just be an innocent smile, still it helps, as I know that I have come to the right place.

Some want to be famous, some want high speed internet, others want low fat milk. I won't say no to any of these but what I really want is "the world". Ever since I spotted my first map, I wanted the world. I sat with my geography book and dreamed of distant lands.

We grow up to the reality of passports, visas and the notion of nations. They say your country is you identity, it is where you belong, it is your home. They say that your country defines you. I beg to differ; I like to quote Huygens "The world is my country. And science, my religion".

"East, my friends, is waiting for a man", said the German Kaiser in the nineteenth century. He was looking for brave men to cross the yet unmapped middle east and find a way to attack British India. The fourteenth century Moroccan backpacker Ibn Batuta said "He who spurs his mount east, wrests wonders from the hands of time". I chose to head east. Following tales are from there. There is still some east left. Some day soon, the east would be won. And then we shall go west.
