Rejang River, Sibu, Borneo
The mighty Rejang river, runs about 600 KMS from the heart of Borneo to the South China sea. Sibu is a big trans-shipment centre. Timber and other commodities from the hinterland gets shipped to here. It is also a place where you start your trip upliver into the longhouse country.

The muddy Rejang river.
The Chinese settled here, lured by the local sultan to open up the hinterland.

The Sibu Pagoda provides a nice view of the river and the city beyond.

The Tua Pek Kong temple. The tree next to it is supposed to be more than hundred years old. It was planted by a rickshaw puller. He used to rest in the shade in between ferrying the devotees to their homes. Inside the temple you will find the interesting care taker. He enjoys telling you the history of the place.

That night I ended up at this hotel where they were having a local fashion show.

The lovely models. It was too dark, couldn't take a nicer picture.
