"Happy Songkran" in Chiang Mai (North Thailand)
I came to Chiang Mai one day before the start of the SongKran (Thai new year) festival.

This festival is also called the water
festival as everyone loves to douse everyone else with water. The kids were
not waiting for the next day, they had already started their Songkran.

Even the tourists join in the fun.

And this girl emptied the bucket on me.

It was hot - some kids preferred to celebrated Songkran in the moat surrounding
the old city.

There was another exhibition featuring the cultures of the GMS (Greater
Mekong Sub region - North Thailand, West Myanmar, Lao, Cambodia, Vietnam
and Yunnan province of China). These lovely girls were getting
ready for a parade.

Local kids dressing in "dai" costumes. The "dai" people are the native
of Xishunagbann region, Yunnan Province in China. The ancient kingdom
of Lanna extended from North Thailand, across Lao to southern Yunnan.

The "King Pagoda" built on a nearby mountain to celebrate the 60th birthday
of the king.

The "Queen Pagoda" built on a nearby mountain to celebrate the
60th birthday of the queen.

This is the highest point ( 2565 m above sea level) in Thailand. Also probably the coldest place in Thailand. It was 16 C here, while the city was 31C.
See the Lovely Girls post on my blog for more lovely girls from Chiang Mai.
